Answer

The multimedia-based main menu is not compatible with some security settings on newer Windows computers. To circumvent the main menu and access Teacher's Resource Planner directly, please follow the below directions:

  1. Install the program.
    1. Follow the installation instructions provided with the application.
    2. Install the respro.exe patch before proceeding.
  2. Find the program shortcut and change its folder name.
    1. Open Start|All Programs|Scott Foresman TRP.
    2. Rename the "Scott Foresman TRP" shortcut folder as desired. It is recommended that "Scott Foresman TRP" and a reference to grade and/or language be used.
  3. Get the shortcut variable for future use.
    1. Right-click the only shortcut within the former "Scott Foresman TRP" folder and click Properties.
    2. Select the Shortcut tab (if necessary).
    3. Select the Target field. Move your cursor to the end of the text.
    4. Write down the last four characters (i.e., RE2N) after the normal shortcut (i.e., "C:\Program Files\Scott Foresman TRP\Resource Pro\Reading National 2\ResourcePlanner.exe" RE2N).
  4. Create shortcuts for Planning Express and Local Objectives Editor (both parts of the lesson planning software).
    1. Click Cancel to clear the shortcut's Properties box.
    2. Find and open the "Planning Express" folder using Start|Search.
    3. Make shortcuts for both the Local Objectives Editor (LOE.exe) and Planning Express (PlanningExpress.exe). Rename the shortcuts to "Local Objectives Editor" and "Lesson Planner", respectively.
    4. Move the shortcuts into the former "Scott Foresman TRP" shortcut folder.
    5. Right-click each shortcut and access the Properties box.
    6. Add the four-character code to the end of each box's Target text string.
  5. Create a shortcut for Teacher Resources Library.
    1. Find the PDF file in your CD-ROM that ends with "...HOME.pdf".
    2. Create a shortcut for this file on your desktop.
    3. Move the PDF shortcut into the former "Scott Foresman TRP" shortcut folder.
  6. Delete the original shortcut.
  7. Repeat for all Teacher's Resource Planner CD-ROMs. Do not try to skip steps for multiple CD-ROMs.
